We watched the wedding unfold on May 13th, after you had voted on all the details of The Knot Dream Wedding. We threw an unforgettable family-centric celebration at The New York Public Library for Devon Still, NFL player, and Asha Joyce, his fiancee. Devon’s 6-year old daughter, Leah, fought and won her battle with pediatric cancer last year and made an appearance during the wedding ceremony, first dance, and (of course!) the photo booth. The photo booth made this year’s Dream Wedding just as much about the family as about marriage.

1. Personalize Your Stationery
The Big Apple wedding at the New York Public Library is a great source of inspiration. The Knot readers embraced this when voting for the invitations. The New York Skyline design was hand-drawn and printed in rose gold foil in the winning stationery. How can you make your invitations extra special? Margot Hallac is the founder and creative director at Atelier Isabey. She recommends monogramming. She says that monogramming is a personal way to keep a special memory. We offer our clients a variety of monograms, so they can personalize their invitations. This adds that special touch that makes them feel like family heirlooms.
2. Get to know your venue
David Beahm says, “With such an elegant venue, the flowers must be complementary rather than competing with all of the lines in that area.” The venue’s stunning architecture was considered when planning the ceremony seating. Beahm says that Ceremonies in the Round are special because everyone is only four to five seats away from the couple. They can enjoy the grandiosity of the room while they wait.

3. Make Space for Lounging
A lounge area is a great way of creating a feeling of intimacy in an otherwise large space. Choose furniture that matches the atmosphere of your reception area to create a balanced design. We chose classic modern favorites, high-backed banquettes with mirrored coffee tables. Christina Therrien (director of special events, Taylor Creative Inc.) says that the look was elegant and matched perfectly with the floral designs.
4. Make focal points
A striking flower arrangement can transform a room. There are many ways to turn flowers into statements. Beahm suggests placing them at the bar, buffet or entrance to the reception. Even if there is only one large arrangement, it can speak volumes. Are flowers not your style? A dramatic backdrop can create a similar effect. A fabric draping was used to create the Dream Wedding. It was set behind a laser-cut pattern that called attention to the stage.
5. Set Up Interactive Entertainment
Photo booths are a great way to make people laugh, but they also offer a chance for friends and family to take a few photos together while they’re dressed up. Studio Z Photo Booths owner Zach Schiffman says, “It breaks down barriers and allows people to laugh, have fun, and capture raw emotion.” “Grandma and Grandpa sharing a laugh in the booth is something I love the most. I can give that image to a couple for them to cherish.” You can make your booth funny by giving guests sunglasses or sports caps that will allow them to show off their personalities and be a bit silly.
6. Make a Signature Drink
The first chance guests have to mingle and mix after the ceremony is over is the cocktail hour. It’s where the real celebration begins. Your guests should be treated to a signature drink that reflects your style, whether it’s a martini or a specialty brew. Marcia Selden Catering created a delicious Crown apple ginger ale cocktail for Devon and Asha.
7. Go Big With Your Wedding Cake
Your wedding cake is the highlight of your day. Make it big! Ask your baker to add a few tiers of Styrofoam to the design if you don’t have enough guests for a five-tier cake.

8. Lights can set the mood
You want to make your dancefloor the most popular place on earth? It’s time to light it up. Do you want all the attention on your cake display? Place a spotlight on your cake display. It can make all of the difference in what your guests see and can change the vibe of the event.
9. Have fun with the Groom’s cake
There are no rules when it comes to the groom’s cake. All flavors, all styles, and all designs are welcome. It was fitting that the red velvet grooms cake had the football shape because he is a professional athlete. Victoria Zagami, of Made in Heaven Cakes, says that while the bride often gets the details right, the groom’s cakes are a playful and fun way to give the groom extra attention.

10. Give a Taste! Final Impression
An edible favor is a great choice. This is a great way to ensure you aren’t gifting guests with items they don’t already own. And, let’s face it, instant gratification never disappoints. Ali Borowick Zmishlany CEO of Fatty Sundays, said that the pretzels brought a delicious burst in color and fun to the Dream Wedding. Everyone wins when you give everyone a snack that is both sweet and salty.
